Expert Interview

Slingshot members are talking to an expert! The topic is:

A Second Look: Discussing how recent advances in quantum computing could challenge bitcoin’s cryptographic foundations and reshape security, trust, and long-term viability across the crypto ecosystem

Ticker(s): GOOG, Bitcoin

Who's the expert?

  • Professor and Scientific Director of a major quantum innovation ecosystem, with over two decades of leadership in quantum information science spanning quantum computing, quantum communication, and cryptography.
  • Deep research background across quantum algorithms, quantum control, and quantum cryptographic systems, with extensive publications and involvement in advancing both theoretical and applied quantum technologies.
  • Active advisor and contributor to global quantum initiatives, including work on governance, security, and the broader implications of emerging quantum capabilities for industry and digital infrastructure.

Interview Goal
Evaluating the potential implications of recent quantum computing advancements—including those from Google—on bitcoin and the broader crypto ecosystem. Specifically, we’re looking to understand (1) how far current technology is from reaching the level of quantum compute (e.g., qubit scale and error correction) required to meaningfully challenge existing cryptographic systems, and (2) what mitigation strategies may be available, such as the adoption of quantum-resistant encryption or other protocol-level changes.
